Hey, we are Cohabit! Maximilian Pangerl, Jed Manguera and Vaishnavi Srinivasan alumnis in the master studies of Leadership & Sustainability, Aug 2021 – May 2022.
What is your idea?
Cohabit rents pre-loved furniture to make sustainable consumption accessible, affordable and convenient for everyone. Specially targeted towards International students who need to set up a home away from home for a short period of time, like 6 to 12 months.
How did you come up with your idea?
Personal experience with the challenges as an International student in moving into an unfurnished apartment was the starting point. The business idea was developed as part of a school assignment in the course Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship.
What were the first steps you did when you started working on your idea?
With the guidance and coaching from Drivhuset, the idea was submitted for Leapfrogs scholarship and was selected. As preparation towards working on the pilot, the Cohabit team participated in the Level-up, pre-incubator program conducted by Drivhuset, that helped develop the business model canvas.
What are your tips for starting up?
Startups have several known and unknown challenges in making their business work. With the right guidance, the startups will be able to overcome the known hurdles and tackle the new ones without repeating mistakes that others have already done.
What are your next steps?
After the pilot in 2022, we validated the need for renting pre-loved furniture. In August of 2023, Cohabit is a registered business that is offering its services in Malmo and Lund. The Students are offered budget-friendly bundles of essential furniture, which are quality assured, delivered into the apartments, and picked up at the end of the rental period.
